Impacts of technological innovation: a systematic review for smart Bangladesh

Smart Cities and Advanced Technology, Vol. 2, Issue 1, 2024, p. 1-11.
Tabassum Zaman, Soma Bhattacharjee, Fahmida Sultana
Economic stability is the lifeline of a nation as it is the vital condition for the standard of living of the citizens. Economic growth and stability are prerequisites for an emerging country to upgrade to the status of a middle-income country. The potential dimensions of the digital economy in Bangladesh are intrinsically linked with the fostering of economic development and prosperity by the year 2041. Technological innovation is one of the major forces of economic growth and digital Bangladesh. It is expected to impact directly and indirectly the economic development since the Industrial Revolution. Accordingly, this research seeks to provide an overview of the present impacts of technological innovation, focusing on evolving trends that have direct and indirect impacts on the economy. The methodology of the study engages a qualitative approach using a systematic review of the research objectives, applying secondary data. The findings of the study reflect on the potential of technological innovation on individual, organizational, and environmental impacts on Bangladesh. Considering the nascent impacts of technological innovation the study suggests that policymakers should take prompt action to ensure an efficient labor force through research and development and this may follow organizational excellence and environmental sustainability. The study suggests that these three dimensions will cascade in the economic improvement of Bangladesh shortly.

Enhancing technical proposal evaluation in consultant selection in Department of Water Resources and Irrigation, Nepal: a fuzzy analytic hierarchy process and fuzzy TOPSIS

Smart Cities and Advanced Technology, Vol. 2, Issue 1, 2024, p. 12-23.
Nischal Silwal, Subash Kumar Bhattarai, Dinesh Sukamani
In today's dynamic construction landscape, where challenges like complexity, costs, and uncertainties loom large, the selection of consultants emerges as a pivotal factor for project triumph. Among the array of methods available, Quality and Cost Based Selection (QCBS) stands out for its holistic approach, considering both technical prowess and financial considerations. Yet, amidst its structured framework, the evaluation of technical proposals within QCBS often grapples with subjectivity, despite the presence of well-defined criteria. This study boldly tackles this challenge head-on by delineating common criteria and sub-criteria for consultant selection within the esteemed Department of Water Resources and Irrigation (DWRI). Leveraging the innovative Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), our endeavor is to ascertain the relative significance of these criteria and sub-criteria. Through the fusion of Fuzzy AHP and Fuzzy Techniques for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS), our study aspires to revolutionize consultant ranking methodologies. The ingenious application of Fuzzy AHP empowers us to derive independent weights for criteria and sub-criteria, thereby embracing the inherent ambiguity and nuances of qualitative factors. Subsequently, employing Fuzzy TOPSIS, we aim to systematically rank consultant alternatives based on their Closeness Coefficients, heralding a paradigm shift in evaluation paradigms. Through this groundbreaking hybrid approach, our study endeavors to elevate the consultant selection process, ensuring an impeccable alignment of chosen consultants with project requisites and benchmarks. By dispelling the shadows of subjective decision-making uncertainties, our research holds the promise of ushering in a new era of excellence in the realm of construction projects under the aegis of the Department of Water Resources and Irrigation.

Examination of electric vehicle charging stations and V2G technology

Smart Cities and Advanced Technology, Vol. 3, Issue 1, 2025, p. 10-17.
Mehmet Duran Menekşe, İsmail Temiz
With the rapidly increasing tendency towards electric vehicles in the world with the effect of global warming, the issue of charging the batteries of electric vehicles has gained importance. With the introduction of electric vehicles into our lives, existing networks have become insufficient. In order to meet the energy demanded by electric vehicles, it is possible to increase the grid efficiency by around 20 % by making the existing grid smart without building a new power plant. In this sense, the inclusion of electric vehicles in the smart grid is an important topic. An important element of the goal of transition to smart grids, which is a renewable and clean energy policy all over the world, is electric vehicle charging stations. In this study, a review was made by examining the methods of connecting electric vehicles to the grid. Among these methods, the types and levels of vehicle charging stations that provide one-way transmission are defined. Statistics on usage and infrastructure in the world and in Turkey are shared. In addition, vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology, another method with bidirectional transmission, is analysed. The importance of this technology is emphasized by sharing data on its development and market share in the world and in Turkey. In the light of this information, suggestions have been made for the development of electric vehicle charging stations and V2G technology in Turkey.
